Life as a Nottinghamshire based Photographer

Hello folks! I guess it’s time to introduce myself, and to introduce you to my life as an East Midlands based photographer.

My name is Lauren, I’m currently 36… or 37… Look, I always get confused and then it changes again! I’ve been enjoying photography for as long as I can remember, since it’s been a firm hobby in my family since my great-grandfather and all of his gorgeous, vintage photography paraphernalia.

I have memories of packets of film, folders of prints and the very distinct and nostalgic scent of an overheating photo slide projector machine. Speaking of which, my family and I pulled that out of the depths of storage recently to reminisce and slide through old photos (pardon the pun), as we just lost my grandfather.

And that really is why this all matters, isn’t it? Why is photography worth the cost? Because it’s actually priceless. It’s the moments we can physically hold onto and grasp when our loved ones aren’t anymore. They are what we are left with, along with our memories, to really store and hoard our most cherished ones for as long as we can.

That’s why I am a photographer. That’s why it’s photography for me. Meaning. Memories. Moments. Momentos. Magic. Emotion.
It’s why, no matter how much I love a styled shoot, for me the pure magic of capturing genuine moments and unposed emotion is just untouchable. You can’t beat photographing that split second where pure adoration flits across one person’s face, whilst they look at another. There is no substitute for real, honest captures.

And through being a mother to 5 absolutely gorgeous, feral children, and having lived through a million experiences including a whole array of emotions, traumas and connections, I have developed and grown and so too has my photography.

I have so many different types of photography I love to do! But for me, the main focus is to capture some genuine moments, even in the most styled shoots!
